The BET Awards ceremony was tapped recently and the honorees at the event included Alicia Keys, Tyra Banks, Cornel West, Maxine Waters, Richard D. Parsons. The show also featured performances by Wyclef, Stevie Wonder, and Brian McKnight and the show is schedule to air on February 22nd.
Meanwhile it has been reported that protesters came out in force at the BET Honors award show taping in Washington D.C. on January 12th. Members of the Enough Is Enough campaign carried signs that read “I’m not a pimp,” as well as “I am not a gangster.”
Members of the Enough Is Enough campaign have called the BET Honors show simply a way to disguise the negative images regularly broadcast on BET, and to create a false sense of positivity coming from the network and in the end but not the last they “degrades women of color…negatively stereotypes black men and glorifies criminal activity.”
